The Secrets of Pimple Prevention

2009 November 28

Want to know if you are going to have zits? Take a look at your parents and your siblings. If they have or have had zits, chances are you will have pimples also. You share common genes and genes fundamentally determine hormones. The best way to prevent pimples is to go after the root cause of the conundrum, by following a holistic pimple behavior curriculum to “rebalance” your hormone levels. While it might be impracticable to completely prevent pimples, there are some things you can do to lessen your pimples.

Pimples are blackheads and whiteheads that have become infected by the P. acnes bacteria that lives, genuinely, on the go up of your skin. This bacteria does not cause acne, but if you stop the bacteria, you may be able to prevent pimples from developing.

One of the best things you can do to help prevent pimples is to wash your face properly. The goal is to avoid aggravating your skin and risk diffusion infection. When it comes to cleaning your face, keep it simple. Using lukewarm water, clean your face twice daily with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or a very gentle soap such as Dove. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean soft towel. That's it. You shouldn't overwash which won't help your acne, but will probably irritate your acne.

Non-prescription creams and gels with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide are worth trying if you have only mild acne. Avoid using stronger formulations of B.P. because they have not been clinically proven to be more powerful. Don't just spot treat. Apply a thin layer to the areas of your face that get pimples. Do not apply it to areas where you don't get zits because it will irritate your skin. You will be eliminating the P. acnes bacteria, but will that be enough to prevent pimples? Probably not, but it might prevent some blackheads from erupting into zits if you’re lucky. I don't normally recommend benzoyl peroxide to a person who has more than just mild acne because topical acne treatments rarely do much excellent for someone with moderate or severe acne.

How to prevent pimples - What else can you do?

Stop smoking. Smoking constricts the blood vessels in the skin and can make it more susceptible to being paid infected. There are so many better reasons to quit smoking but if preventing pimples is what gets you to stop, use it! Give it up, now.

Reduce Stress: Stress can cause breakouts by producing a surge in androgen hormones. So a further way of preventing pimples is to learn to manage your stress. If you get overly stressed by your work, you might want to practice some relaxation techniques.   If you're in exams… well, take comfort in the knowledge that they will be over soon!

Watch Your diet: Even if dermatologists are only now coming around to admitting this, there is a tie linking diet and pimples. Take hegemony of your breakouts by keeping tabs on of what you eat. You might find that certain items that you eat seem to trigger your breakouts. Milk is a common culprit. You might see reduced pimples if you cut dairy out of your diet. Sugar, hydrogenated oils, and even some nuts can trigger pimples in some people. You might be able to prevent pimples by watchinig what you eat and cold out your own trigger foods.

Don't Pick! Listen to your mother for a change. Don't pick, squeeze or pop anything on your face. I know it's tempting and we all do it, but chances are your acne will stay around longer and spread if you don't take this advice. This includes using those “strips” to rip out your blackheads. Any time you aggravate your skin, you boost the likelihood that it’s going to get infected. If you don’t want pimples, don’t mess around with your blackheads and whiteheads. Let them go away on their own. Hide them with makeup instead.

What is really the best way to prevent pimples? The best way to prevent pimples over the long term, and the only way that I really believe in, is to try one of the holistic acne programs. That’s because pimples are eventually the result of a hormone imbalance and not inappropriate hygiene or bacteria. Hormones. The best thing you can do is follow the recommendations of the holistic acne behavior programs to make yourself as healthy as you can be, weigh your hormones, and get rid of your acne. I wish you luck with whatever you try, but remember – don’t do anything that aggravates your skin – you’ll make it worse and you'll really cause more pimples, not prevent them.
